SAS Canada or Suffragettes Against Silence was formed in the Fall of 2015, however our “Great” Grandmothers paved the way in 1916, after a long hard battle of 70 years fighting for the vote. When WWI began as patriots they dropped their activities and stood united with their male counterparts to be victorious. Their men realizing what a huge asset and the integral role they played in war conceed shortly afterwards to extend the vote to them.
In Canada, we had the “Famous 5” where the movement traveled overseas from Emmeline Pankhurst in the UK to here. Now 100 years later Suffragettes are Sashing up Again, against all forms of oppression and abuse towards women and children.
The Suffragette Spirit has been reborn, and we continue Fighting for our Dignity, Freedom, Rights and our Nationalism in the True Spirit of Suffragettism.
